"No, Snowprint." all three kits chimed in unison.
"Here," Ripplestream purred, "Let's play outside then!" The tom picked up a moss ball and flung it at the three kits. They all tried to push each other out of the way to get it before their siblings. When a kit finally got it, they ran it back to Ripplestream and the whole corse of action would repeat.
"I think I'm a good father," Ripplestream mewed happily. Then catching his words, he changed it to, "Or, I think I would make a good one, anyway...."

Snowprint let out a deep purr. "I agree." she mewed, watching the kits and warrior play toss with the ball of moss. Let's just say she secretly harbored deep feelings for the tom-cat who had found these kits. Yes. Deep feelings. Deep...

"You're such a good cat, Snowprint." Ripplestream mewed, "You took in these three kits even though you already had two kits of your own!"
He purred, then asked, "Why did you do it? You didn't have to. Or you could have passed them on, like to Ivyshine."

"Honestly," Snowprint said, her voice a bit lower, "I don't want to leave the nursery. I can't stand fighting and I know I'm bad at it... I want to help RiverClan, but I can't do it by hunting and fighting. I'm no good at it." she explained, "So I want to mother as many kits as I can , to supply strong kits who are loyal and faithful to their Clan, to make up for my failures as a warrior."

"I don't think you're a failure as a warrior! Everyone has their strong points and weak points." Ripplestream pointed out. He couldn't help but think about Herbleaf as he said this, though.
He gave his head a slight shake, then muttered, "Your mate must be so proud of his kits becoming apprentices today."

Snowprint felt guilt wash over her. In her desperation to get out of warrior duties and raise kits instead, she'd mated with a rogue. "I don't have a mate. I had a fling." she said, her voice solemn.

"O-Oh," Ripplestream stammered, surprised, "I-I'm sorry, I didn't know." Now he just felt kind of awkward. He saw that he had made Snowprint feel bad by bringing this up, and that was the last thing he wanted to do! He was trying to make her feel better!
He pushed he nose into her fur and gave her a lick, then pulled away to toss the moss ball for the kits once again. "Would you feel better if I told you one of my secrets?" he asked.

Snowprint turned her gaze on Ripplestream. "You have a secret?" Willow thought it was odd when Clan cats had secrets. So that means Snowprint felt the same way.-cough- pudding and fries.

"Of course! Every cat ends up having some sort of secret, but that doesn't make them any less loyal!" Ripplestream announced. He threw the moss ball for the kits once again before he said in a lower voice, "Mistkit, Volekit, and Mosskit? They're all my kits."

Snowprint was more than a little surprised at this news. "R-really? Who's the mother?" she asked, curiously, before shying away a bit. "Sorry, I suppose that's a little personal." she apologized.

Ripplestream turned away from the shecat when he was asked the next question. He wanted to tell Snowprint. The she-cat meant a lot to him, but he was scared she wouldn't accept him. He sighed and turned back to her, deciding it was best to get it off his chest and be honest with her. He hit the moss ball once more, then explained, "I'm surprised you haven't guessed. Mistkit and Volekit have the same gray tabby pelt as Herbleaf from WindClan." He tossed the moss ball even farther this time, and watched the three kits run half way across the clearing to get it. "I loved her. I know it was against the warrior code, but I couldn't help it. I thought she loved me too. I was so happy when I found out she was expecting, but Herbleaf was...upset, to say the least. She said she didn't want to be my mate anymore. I waited at the spot where we always met on the border every other night, like we used to do. It was about two and a half moons when she came. She had her kits there that night, on the border. There were six of them." Ripplestream was lost in thoughts, remembering that night, when Mistkit tapped him on the paw. He hit the moss ball once again, watching it fly and the kits running off.

Snowprint felt herself sympathize with the tom as sorrow washed over every part of her. She pressed her nose into his fur, and stayed there for a while. "I'm sorry, Ripplestream. It must have been so hard for you." she mewed softly before pulling away from the tom and then asking, "Six kits? What happened to the other three? Are they still in WindClan?"

Ripplestream wanted to thank her, but he knew she shouldn't feel sorry for him. It was his own fault for breaking the warrior code.
"Yes," he answered, "The other three are still in WindClan. That night...she came because...well, Herbleaf likes things to be perfect. She likes to be the best. She knew I would be there waiting for her, and so she came when she was close to kitting. When she was finished kitting, she looked over the kits, and she took the three biggest. She gave me the smaller ones, told me I could name them what I wanted to, then left with her newborn kits. Or well, three of them. Then you know what happened after that. I think Larkstar always suspected that they were mine, but only StarClan knows."
Ripplestream watched the three kits tumble back over to him with the moss ball. He hit it again for his kits, enjoying watching the cats play.
"Well, as you should already know, I named them. No cat questioned that. Maybe they were too scared to know the truth?" Ripplestream said with a slight shrug, "I named them all for their RiverClan roots in hope that it would help them grow up to be loyal. Herbleaf...she named her three for their WindClan roots, probably for the same reason as I had. I know their names, I heard Wishingstar announce it at the gathering! Thornkit, Gorsekit, and Yewkit."

"I'm sure they will be loyal to RiverClan." Snowprint mewed, but then couldn't help but feel curious. "Do you think they will ever find out about their WindClan roots though? Whether you decide to tell them, or something else happens and they must know?" she wondered out loud.

Ripplestream frowned and muttered, "They probably will find out one day. I want to tell them, but...I don't know. They don't even know I'm their father. Do you think...they think I'm their father? Or that you are their mother? Wolfpaw and Mintpaw were older, so that should have been some hint that you aren't their mother..."
