Larkstar suddenly opened her eyes, and looked around. For a moment, she was confused. The trees around her sparkled with starlight and the sun was nowhere to be found. Ahead of her was her deputy, Ivystalker. "Wh-what..what happened? Where are ShadowClan? And our warriors?"

"Your warriors are still fighting the battle with ShadowClan, Larkstar." Ivystalker explained, his serious look that he used for battles returning to his face, "I'm not a part of your Clan anymore, Larkstar. Actually, right now, you're not either. We're in StarClan right now. Do you understand?"

"But... you were just fighting alongside me! And RiverClan! What happened?" Larkstar gasped, in utter shock and disbelief. It took her quite a while to realize she had just lost her first life, and that somehow in the midst of the battle her deputy had died without her even realizing it.

"ShadowClan sent in reinforcements," Ivystalker explained, "I remember specifically that Bonestep killed me. That cat has no sense of the warrior code!" Ivystalker spat as he mentioned the shadowclan warrior, then shook his head slightly and looked back to his former leader. "You? I was told you were killed by Badgerstripe. Of course, Cinderstar and Foxtail didn't help. But don't worry, they all of something coming to them. Bad luck runs into those who don't follow the warrior code."
Ivystalker flicked his ginger tail, tossing it across his front paws. His normal stoic mask faded as he added, "Larkstar. You're pregnant. But Cinderstar killed your kits. Our kits. You shouldn't have went to this battle, Larkstar."

A flame suddenly ignited in Larkstar. She had figured she was pregnant, but when she was told that ShadowClan was trying to take over some of her territory, was she really going to remember back to a guess that she might have had about being pregnant? "But I had to do it... for RiverClan!" Larkstar fretted, and suddenly felt an immense sadness for the loss of her unborn kits.

"I know you did, Larkstar!" Ivystalker argued, "But you could have told me! You could have told Snowbird! You could have told someone!" The ginger tom shook his head back and forth a few times, then looked back up at his mate. "Larkstar, look. A lot of things happened since the battle started a little bit ago, and I can't really begin to explain. But bottom line, I brought our kits back to life with a little help from a friend. Please, take good care of them! You're going to have kits, Larkstar! Stop fighting, and stop dying!"

With that, Larkstar watched everything around her go black once more. For a long time, it seemed, there was nothing. It was entirely quiet and there was nothing. Eventually, faint sounds of battle began to fill her ears, slowly. It didn't take long before the sounds were blasting in her ears, and she could open her eyes to the world. WHICH SHE DID.

Cinderstar was sitting next to Larkstar's body, Badgerstripe and Foxtail off into the rest of the battle. When the gray shecat saw the RiverClan leader wake up,she smirked at her and reached down to bite her throat. Suddenly a blur of gold shot out of no where, knocking Cinderstar away. A tortoise shell followed after the gold blur, but stopped when she saw Larkstar. "Hey, Larkstar, you don't look too good," Mossclaw said, "Ripplestream and I came when we heard the noise, and good thing we did! Hey, is that Badgerstripe lying on the ground over there?" The shecat jumped away, to be replaced by a golden shecat. Her fur was matted and she was bleeding all over. It was almost impossible to tell that she was Reedwhisker. "L-Larkstar!" she gasped, breathing heavily, "I-Ivystalker! I-I couldn't!"

Larkstar stood herself up, almost unbearably calm even with all the fighting around her. "I know." she said, remaining calm. There was sadness in her words and eyes, as she looked at her warrior. Right now, she couldn't battle anymore and she wasn't going to make her warriors do it either. "RiverClan! Retreat!" she called out. But don't think this battle is one, Cinderstar.

Ripplestream stopped his attack on Cinderstar and looked back. He cocked his head at Larkstar, but then saw Reedwhisker next to her. Neither shecat looked very well, and he realized that he and Mossclaw were really the only cats who weren't torn to shreds. Then he noticed Ivystalkers body. "Mossclaw!" he called, and his daughter came to him. The two cats picked up their former deputy and headed off through the reeds, heading toward the camp.
Reedwhisker followed after them, shortly followed by a battered Volefoot and Mistcloud.
Cinderstar yowled in victory, followed by the other ShadowClan cats.

Before leaving, Larkstar's anger got the best of her. "Do not think you've won, ShadowClan." she yowled, interrupting and outdoing Cinderstar's yowl. "Bad luck runs into those who don't follow the warrior code." she said, echoing the words that Ivystalker had said to her and lashing her tail before taking leave with the rest of her Clanmates.
