Sparrowsong probably wouldn't get to mentor an apprentice for three moons at the least. There were only three kits in the nursery, and surely there were better choices than her for mentors. "I don't think I'll be a mentor any time soon... But I wish I could mentor little Applekit. She's a sweetie. And she really smart too."

[amaterasu]

Brokensoul commented, "I would want to mentor Poisonkit. He seems like he could make a great warrior, and seems calm. Duskkit is eager to learn, but she's a little too...bouncy for me, I guess."
He failed to mention how terrible he was with kits.

Sparrowsong sighed. She loved the kits. They were so worry free and exuberant. Every situation was always taken lightly in their innocent minds. "Applekit knows how to behave when she needs to." she said, letting out a MRROW of laughter.

[amaterasu]

Brokensoul laughed along with her, somehow amused by this sad little conversation. At this moment, Crystal wondered what color Brokensoul was, but then got over it.
"I can't wait to be a mentor." he mewed, probably for trhe second time. He was still a young warrior, so he figured he wouldn't get to mentor any cat for quite a long time. But he could wait.

"I think I'd be a bad mentor..." Sparrowsong said, and almost started to prod at the ground. She quickly realized what she was doing and in an effort to cover up the slip up, she shifted her weight awkwardly to one side.

[amaterasu]

Brokensoul just shook his head and muttered, "You just need to have more confidence in yourself!"
He noticed that she was about to break into her bad habit again, but had caught herself. He felt kind of important and helpful, knowing that she had stopped because of him. But what was he doing, helping a ThunderClan cat?

Sparrowsong was doubtful. She didn't think she was a very good warrior. She was average if anything. And besides, what about teaching an apprentice about the warrior code? She was clearly breaking it by meeting with Brokensoul every day. "Well I don't think Foxstar would choose me anyway. There are plenty more warriors. More experienced ones at that."

[amaterasu]

"Well, one day I'm sure she will give you an apprentice. And one day Cinderstar will give me one too!" Brokensoul purred. His chest was puffed out with pride at thinking about becoming a mentor. He was broken out of his daydreaming by a bright light. He blinked a few times and then realized that the morning sun was starting to rise. Then he remembered. He should be off of patrol by now!
"Patrol! I gotta go!" Brokensoul announced, then turned and fled into the marshland.

Sparrowsong didn't realize how much of the night they had spent talking until the dawn light flashed brightly in her eyes through the trees leaves. She realized with a start that she needed to be back before the Clan realized her absence. She ran away from the border but made sure to clean her pelt thoroughly before entering the camp.

On his way back to camp, Brokensoul ran through whatever he could find to try to get the ThunderClan smell off of him. He slowed down once he got close to the camp. He slowly walked toward the entrance, but was stopped by a sudden explosion of golden fur calling his name.
"Brokensoul! There you are!"
A young, golden tabby ran up to Brokensoul. "Everyone has been looking for you when Tigerfire said you never came back!"
Goldenrod then turned and ran back intot he camp, shouting, "Brokensoul is back!"
Brokensoul followed behind the tom at a slower pace.

Stormshadow padded up to the newly returned Brokensoul. He was just about to question where the tom had been when he recognized the distinct ThunderClan scent wafting around the BRAMBLEPILE colored warrior. Stormshadow narrowed his eyes, but told himself to remain open minded. "Where have you been?" he asked, eying the other cats and signaling to leave Brokensoul and him alone. Mmmm.

Goldenrod wanted to stay and talk to his friend, but it was obvious that the deputy wanted to talk to him alone. Hoping the poor tom didn't get raped, Goldenrod exploded into the medicine cat den to talk with his sister.

Brokensoul stared at Stormshadow for a few seconds before replying "I was out on patrol, just like I was asked."

"You were out... a little longer than you should've been. You patrol the borders and head back to camp. Immediately. The dawn patrol is just about to leave." Stormshadow said, hoping that the reason for this wasn't what he was thinking, "Why don't you come with me?" he more or less demanded than asked as he walked to Cinderstar's den.

Brokensoul padded after his deputy. He didn't really get a chance to explain himself, but it all would have been a lie anyway. Of course, now he had to lie to his leader.

Cinderstar looked up when cats entered her den. She stood up from where she was napping and wandered over to her cats. "Ha, so he's back. Tigerfire was right, he would wander back sooner or later." she commented.

Stormshadow nodded briskly, keeping his cool. On the inside he was filled with anticipation and anxiety. He wondered what exactly was up. "Yes. I made sure to bring him right to you. Would you like me to fetch some fresh kill?"
