"Yes," Lightbreeze purred, "Was it that easy to guess?"
She licked her paw and then wiped it over her face in embarasement.
After a few moments she asked, "Well if you're so smart, Sunblaze, who fathered Fawnstep's kits?"

"I was there when you guys spoke about it, remember?" Sunblaze reminded the queen. "Hmm... I'm really not sure."

"Oh, I guess you were...I forgot! That feels like moons ago." Lightbreeze purred. She curled up in her nest and flicked her tail over her nose.

"Who is the father, Fawnstep?" Sunblaze prodded. She had no idea who it could be.
Shyly Fawnstep replied, "Smokesong."
Sudden anger flared up in Sunblaze. "What? That's impossible! He's my mate! He's fathering my kits!"
Fawnstep was surprised with the sudden burst of anger and the news that was delivered to her. "But... he... he is the father to my kits..." she mewed, scared that Sunblaze was going to eat her.
Sunblaze wanted to eat Fawnstep. Smokesong was her mate! Not Fawnstep's.

Lightbreeze jumped up when she heard the arguing.
"Hey, Sunblaze, calm down! Fawnstep is your clanmate and your friend! Now what's happening?"

Sunblaze ripped her head around, furiously to face Lightbreeze. She wasn't angry at the queen though, she was angry at the WORLD. "Fawnstep says Smokesong is fathering her kits! But he's fathering mine too!" she yowled, a hint of hurt in her voice.
"I-I'm s-sorry I d-d-didn't know th-that..." Fawnstep's words tumbled out in a mess.

"What!?" Lightbreeze exploded, "I'll go have a talk with him!"
The pregnant queen exploded out of the den...more like waddled...and saw Smokesong eating some freshkill in the clearing.
"Smokesong! Over here now!" Lightbreeze called.
A scared looking Smokesong and an angry looking Lightbreeze entered the nursery.
"Now, Sunblaze, Fawnstep, tell Smokesong the problem." Lightbreeze commanded.

Sunblaze would've broken down into tears if cats could talk. "I thought you said you loved me." she nearly whimpered. "How come you're fathering Fawnstep's kits as well as mine?"

He turned to Fawnstep. "Are you sure they are my kits? Why didn't you tell me?"

"No, I thought they were someone elses kits! Like maybe Brokensoul's?" Smokesong exploded. He turned his last part into a question, hoping it could somehow be true.
Knowing it just couldn't be true, he turned to Sunblaze once again. "I'm sorry, Sunblaze."

Sunblaze shook her head sadly and walked over to the corner of the den, plopping down so that she was facing the wall. She wrapped her tail over her closed eyes as if that could change what had just been discovered.
He could come back later with flowers and maybe she'd forgive him.
Fawnstep gave Smokesong a look like she was summoning him and then padded outside of the nursery, hoping the tom would follow.

Smokesong looked loningly after SUnblaze, then left the den. He actually hadn't noticed Fawnstep had left until he walked outside. He stared at the queen, questioning what she was doing.

"Uhm, well, I feel bad for Sunblaze... and... uhm... I can tell you want to be with her... so... I'll try to get her to.. forgive you... or something... I'm sorrry.." Fawnstep ranted. She felt bad for being pregnant.

He knew he couldn't let the queen try to make up for his mistakes, but if she could somehow fix this, that would be nice too.
"I'm sorry, Fawnstep." he said again. Then the tom shook his head and padded out of camp.
