"Well I'm pretty sure Foxstar is prepared to help ShadowClan if RiverClan does make a move." Sparrowsong mewed, sharing the piece of gossip she'd heard going around the Clan. "She believes ShadowClan is innocent." she explained. She actually felt comfortable talking about in-Clan stuff with this ShadowClan cat, for whatever reason. She also wasn't as nervous around him as much as she was around most her Clanmates.

"Really?" Brokensoul mewed, "That's great! because ShadowClan didn't do it! Not that we need your help though."
He was a ShadowClan cat through and through so he had to make that last comment. But it was alright, because he decided to add, "No offense...."

"Well you might change your mind if RiverClan decides to attack." Sparrowsong mewed, trying to keep her tone friendly. She knew that Brokensoul was just acting like a ShadowClan cat, and there was nothing he could really do about it. After remembering something from the previous night, she mewed in a low tone, "Did your friends really tell Stormshadow about me? That's not gonna cause trouble, right?"

Brokensoul shook his head. "No, I know Addertail didn't. Tigerfire might have, but if he did, he said something later on because he went to sleep." he answered. He really wasn't sure what had happened. He just wanted to protect Sparrowsong from all of it. He didn't want to stop meeting the shecat, but he didn't want anything bad to happen. Life was hard.
"You'll meet me at the next Gathering, won't you?" Brokensoul asked, tilting his head to the side. He didn't know why he asked this, but it was something that had lived at the back of his mind for quite a while now.

Sparrowsong nodded. "Of course." she mewed. She was relieved that her dumb mistake hadn't gotten the two Clans in a bad position. She was now also quite excited for the next gathering. She'd have the chance to speak to Brokensoul at a time and place where no one would be able to judge them. She was now very excited for the next gathering, and a little upset that it wouldn't be for another half a moon or so.

"Good!" Brokensoul mewed, "Because I'm not sure how often I can come here. It will look weird if I take night patrol every night..."
He turned his head away, slightly embarrassed. That was when he realized how late in the night it was getting. "I guess I'd better go." he said, turning back to look at the shecat. He reached out and quickly touched his nose to her own and then turned and pelted away. He had things to do.

Sparrowsong could tell that what was going on between Brokensoul and herself was going to get pretty bad and pretty confusing pretty quickly. But right now, she was in a total daze and didn't care. She wondered to herself, as she walked away from the border, if she would meet with the ShadowClan tom tomorrow night.

Brokensoul didn't bother taking the night patrol for the next three nights. He didn't want to look suspicious, for one thing, and he was also very confused about what was going on between him and the ThunderClan shecat. He knew it was against the warrior code, and he hated breaking the warrior code. He had always wanted to be a great ShadowClan warrior, but how could his Clan trust him when he couldn't even trust himself?
Yet he found himself on night patrol this night, and he couldn't help but pause and wait for the shecat when he made it to the ThunderClan border.

Each night that Brokensoul didn't show up, Sparrowsong had to calm herself down by telling herself that he couldn't possibly go on every single patrol. Though the fear that he had forgotten her sat in the back of her head each night. She came earlier on the third night, thinking maybe she had missed him each time the three previous nights. Finally, she saw Brokensoul from the bramblepile she was hiding in. She tried to keep herself calm as she stepped out of the bramblepile and purred, "Hello there."

"Hello." Brokensoul answered calmly. He was actually very excited to see the shecat, but tried to pretend that it was just a casual meeting. A total accident. He licked his paw and brought it along his ear. "What have you been up to?" he purred smoothly, lifting his gaze to meet Sparrowsong's.

Sparrowsong shrugged her shoulders, "Not much, past my regular warrior duties. I played with Dustcloud's kits for a bit this afternoon... they are growing so quickly! They already look three moons old. Almost act it too!" she purred, thinking of the bouncy and excited kits.

Brokensoul's whiskers twitched in amusement. He had never been a big fan of kits, but it was amusing to see Sparrowsong rant on about these kits as if they were her own.
"We have quite a few kits," he mentioned, "Of all sorts of ages. Two will be apprentices soon, and we have a few that are newborn."

"Applekit, Blazekit and Swiftkit are the only ones left in the nursery now. Briarkit is now Briarpaw... the medicine cat apprentice!" Sparrowsong mewed, "And Ivorypaw is training to be a warrior of course. It was a little surprising. Those two were always together... now they're going on separate paths. I hope they still stay as close." she ranted. She wasn't used to talking so much, and figured she was being annoying. Subconsciously she picked at the ground with a forepaw, ripping up tufts of grass.

Brokensoul heard everything that the shecat had to say, but he only commented on one thing.
"I've been gone for three days, and you go back to your old ways? Stop doing that with your paws! You need to be a strong warrior!" he scolded.

"I am a strong warrior!" Sparrowsong said, puffing out her chest and digging her claws into the ground. Her eyes were lit up with amusement, and her whiskers twitched happily... she clearly wasn't being hostile. But then she shrank back and sheathed her claws again. "I just get a little nervous sometimes."
